A Vegan/Cruelty free beauty box | Chantelle Beauty Box

When deciding to subscribe to a monthly beauty box, what do you take in to account? Do you look for big brand names? Certain types of products? I myself have subscribed to Birch Box currently after contemplating which monthly box I wanted to receive. I did a lot of searching for all different types of beauty boxes and one thing I noticed about them - there was no vegan or cruelty free ones available anywhere. Sure, you get the occasional product in the big brand monthly boxes (Birch Box had a wonderful Spectrum Collections makeup brush in the Feb box) but there isn't a box that's entirely made up of animal friendly products, so I was super happy when I finally stumbled across the Chantelle Beauty* monthly box.

I was pleasantly surprised when I read more into this box on Chantelle's website to find that everything was handmade by herself and was thrilled when it rocked up on my doorstep the other week. The box itself is quite large and has a lovely print on it - I put it next to my Birch Box and its quite a lot bigger than that.

When I opened to see the contents, I found that I had been sent 4 products - three sample size ones and a full size bottle of body oil (200ml bottle). Most subscription boxes tend to give you four tiny samples and one full size but the sample sizes in this box were very generous, making up for the fact that it didn't have a fifth one for me to try.

The first thing I had to try was the 'Glory Oil' body oil as it was very strongly scented and looked like olive oil to me, so I expected it to be greasy on my skin. I was very happy when that turned out not to be the case, and it settled into my skin very fast, leaving my arms feeling smooth and smelling like lavender and aniseed, which made for a lovely mix.

The second thing I was really excited to try was the 'Sweet Like Sugar' scrub as I always love a good treatment on my hands and feet. It was gentle on the skin and wasn't overly sticky on my skin, so I could easily brush it off me after exfoliating my skin as much as I thought I needed. I've noticed that the skin on my feet has definitely looked a lot better since using this, which has definitely made me happy as I hate it when I get dead skin on them! The scrub smelt sweet but it wasn't overpowering and didn't really linger on the skin as much as I had hoped.

The third product I tried out was the 'Pink Magic' bath soak salts. This Himalayan salt is meant to help relax cramped muscles and help draw toxins out of your skin while you soak in the bath. I personally have never been a big fan of bath salts as I never notice anything different about me after a bath apart from the fact I end up getting chunks of salt sticking in me when it doesn't dissolve, but these had some ylang ylang oil coating them which definitely made the bath smell lovely.

The last product I got was a Shea Butter shampoo soap. I've never used a shampoo soap because I honestly don't understand why they're used, so I tend to stick to my TRESemmé one instead. While it did smell nice and made my hair feel a bit softer, its definitely something I wouldn't go out of my way to pick up again, but I'm glad I've finally got around to trying one!

The Chantelle Beauty box costs £13 a month and comes with free UK shipping (yay!). Each box is shipped on the 5th or 10th of every month and will always be handmade, vegan friendly and cruelty free. I was very impressed with this box and you can tell that Chantelle has put in a lot of hard work when it comes to these boxes and I cannot wait to see future ones!

Have you thought about trying a monthly beauty box? Will you go for a vegan/cruelty free one or will you go for big brand names?

  1. It really sucks that there aren't more companies doing this who are cruelty-free, but this beauty box sounds amazing! I'm tempted to get one myself (and free UK shipping?! Yes please!) my main worry is receiving something that wouldn't be good for my skin or that I won't like it, but I guess that's the fun in having one!
