FABULOUS FIVE | Real Techniques Brushes

When it rolled around to November last year, I knew it was time to invest in some better brushes for my makeup collection. I mean, what good is makeup if you have nothing decent to apply it with? A good brush can sometimes make all the difference to the application process and since I started using them, my makeup has turned out better than ever.

Before I started using makeup brushes, I always used to use my fingers or little triangle sponges to apply foundations, concealers and eyeshadows. The only thing I bothered really using a brush for was my eyebrow powder, as trying to do that with my fingers would be pretty frustrating!

So when it rolled around to my birthday and had some money to splash, I went and purchased a few brush sets from Real Techniques. Made by Samantha and Nicola Chapman, these brushes are made up of synthetic bristles that are 100% cruelty free and are super easy to maintain and clean. I chose to get three different sets that contained 4 to 5 brushes each that I knew I use.

The first set I got was the Core Collection set - this is definitely the set that is worth getting if you're just starting to get in to using makeup brushes! The set costs £20.99 and comes with a carry case that also acts as a stand. Secondly I purchased the Travel Essentials set, which also cost me £20.99. I got this set along with the Core Collection because it gave me some extra brushes that I could have with me on the go, just in case I wasn't stopping at home and hadn't had a chance to bring my whole set. Lastly I picked up the Eye Makeup Starter Set (would you believe me if I said it cost me £20.99?), mainly due to the fact that I just love experimenting with eyeshadow and this has given me the ability to do a lot more with my looks.

Now its January and I've been using these brushes none stop and feel like I can definitely narrow it down to my top five out of all twelve, so lets see what made the cut!

5) The Detailer Brush (orange handle, mid)
A brush that is meant to be used for getting in to difficult spots with foundation and concealer, I love using this to apply highlighter under my eyebrows and my cupids bow and blending without any streaky lines.

4) The Base Shadow Brush (purple handle, left side)
This brush is amazing for applying a light eyeshadow to your lid to help with preparing it for darker shades. It tends to pick up a lot of product and applies it very well without making it look like there is too much product on your lid.

3) The Buffing Brush (pink handle, far right)
I've found that this brush can be used for so many things! It applies powder, blush and contour products on very well and it gives a very flawless finish. I mostly use it for buffing away excess powder from when I've set my under eye concealer and it never budges the product from underneath, meaning my under eye never looks smudged or creased, yay!

2) The Accent Brush (purple handle, right side)
This brush works wonders for me when it comes to blending and detailing. I love using it for cut crease looks and making 'eyeliner flicks' with eyeshadow instead and it's used every single time I play about with eyeshadow!

1) The Contour Brush (orange handle, far left)
2015 was the year for contouring and highlighting and this brush helped with the delivery of the two techniques perfectly. I love to use it for a bit of colour on my cheeks and my contouring as it applies smoothly and doesn't pack too much product at once; giving you full control on how much highlight and contour you want.

So there you have it, my favourite Real Techniques brushes! If you haven't already invested in brushes and prefer applying makeup with your fingers, just buy the foundation brush and use it to apply product on one half of your face and then use your fingers for the other half. The difference is astounding and you won't believe how much more flawless your skin looks!

What are your thoughts on Real Technique brushes? Have you got any favourites?

  9. Love Real Techniques as a brand. They're incredibly affordable. I also love their detailer & accent brushes--use them all the time, especially for shimmers & glitters. My fave from their line is the buffer foundation brush from the core collection I believe & their blending brush with the purple handle. Great post, hun ♡
