Ah Netflix, what would I do without you? I'd probably be doing something productive and actually being a somewhat normally functioning human being, but that is besides the point.
This past year, I've had a lot of time to binge watch so many shows that are on Netflix this year. I've seen so many new things and tried shows I'd never thought I'd be interested in. With all that in mind, I'm going to give you my top 5 binge worthy Netflix TV series.
5) Once Upon A Time
Like, who doesn't love a good old fairytale? I personally love reading up and learning all about the original versions of the stories and how much shows like Once Upon A Time and Disney have softened them up - with good reason of course because if some of those stories were left in their original ways then they definitely would not be child friendly in the slightest.
While the show can be somewhat predictable and a bit slow at times, I am enjoying it and the fact that some of my favourite fairytale characters make their appearances played by some very good actors and actresses (hello Sebastian Stan) and it's a show that is family friendly and a good watch if you are a fan of fantasy and love stories. Netflix is always adding on the next episodes that come out every Wednesday so you can keep watching the show after your initial binge watch.

4) Gossip Girl
There is literally no way on this earth where I wouldn't include Gossip Girl on my top 5 binge watch/Netflix/TV program related list. I am obsessed with it in every single way possible. You could ask me anything about the series and I'd be able to answer you in a heartbeat. This was a program I was at first, very hesitant to watch. I thought that it would be mind numbingly boring and I would just find it stupid. God I was so wrong. If you're in to the whole 'lets make scandalous rumours and cause a whole lot of trouble for one another almost daily' then this is a show for you. While when you really get down to it, its definitely a lot more complicated and serious than that and has some crazy shocks and scares throughout the series and most importantly - who is Gossip Girl?

3) Daredevil
When I was younger, I was obsessed with the terrible Ben Affleck film adaptation of the Daredevil comics. Literally, when I look back on it and watch the film now, it really isn't all that great. The Netflix show on the other hand is on a whole new level. Daredevil is a comic book series about a boy is blinded in an accident and grows up to become a crime fighting vigilante who wants to stop the horrors that occur in Hells Kitchen (not the Gordon Ramsay one, I swear!) Violent, gritty and a strong storyline, this is one superhero show you don't want to miss out on.

2) It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
Probably one of the most hilarious TV programs I've ever come across. I would've never known this program existed if it wasn't for me always watching Let's Play videos, more specifically, the Achievement Hunters (yes, I enjoy watching grown men and woman play video games rather than going out to buy them and experience them for myself). Every episode is full of stupidity and hilarity that you can't help but want to watch more of and best of all come season 2, Danny DeVito is a main character in the show.

1) Jessica Jones
Do you like strong woman (literally, she's got super strength), Marvel comics and David Tennant? Then this is the show for you. Also set in Hells Kitchen alongside Daredevil, this is a show based off the Jessica Jones comics, a PI who's gone through a lot of crap. A struggling alcoholic with PTSD who is trying to stop one of the creepiest villains I've ever come across, this show is chair gripping and nail biting, with a big dose of violence thrown in to the mix. David Tennant makes for an extremely excellent villain too, which I was worried he wasn't going to able to pull it off for this show.
What are your thoughts on these shows? Have you seen them yet or are you going to get yourself on Netflix and give them a go?

I've not watched any of these (I just don't have the time!) but Jessica Jones sounds like my cup of tea!

I still need to finish OUAT but since I wrote this post I've started to get back into it after a short break. You should definitely watch Jessica Jones!

ReplyDeleteI want my own Chuck Bass! Ahhhh
DeleteI did a post similar to this a few months back! I’ve been watching Once Upon A Time and I’ve finished Jessica Jones. Need to watch Daredevil (which I probably should have done before Jessica Jones). Gossip Girl is a classic! I’ve never heard of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia! You’ve intrigued me into watching it now. Stop by my YT or my blog if you want - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChwzSRLa5b3aQw3yXMvOZxw/https://socialworkjourney2013.wordpress.com.
ReplyDeleteKeep blogging!

I'll come by and check it out! I don't think theres any problem with watching Jessica Jones before Daredevil because it doesn't spoil anything, there's just one character that crosses over in one of the last few episodes but they don't mention anything about Daredevil. Always Sunny is definitely one of those programs where you have to have the same sense of humour to really like it and luckily I was haha x
DeleteLove this OBSESSED with Gossip Girl at the moment!! x
ReplyDeleteheldtogetherbypins.blogspot.co.uk
It's amazing isn't it! I'm tempted to re-watch it AGAIN haha x
DeleteOh my gosh gurrrrrl we have exactly the same taste in Netflix shows! I've only just started watching Gossip Girl but I'm obsessed, the only one I haven't watched is Jessica Jones! That is next on my list though because Marvel and I have an inappropriate crush on David Tennant 🙈

Oh my god you'll get so in to it! I wanna be Blair so badly haha. Jessica Jones was fantastic and David Tennant was bloody good in it, super creepy though!x
DeleteDaredevil and Jessica Jones were two of my favourite shows this year - so gritty and violent but really really good! There's going to be a Luke Cage spin off too which I can't wait to see. I've also recently got back into Once Upon A Time - it's lovely for a bit of escapism. These are great picks!
ReplyDeleteLaura xx | Loved By Laura
Yes they were both really good! I'm excited to see what they do with the Luke Cage spin off but I hope they don't make it too similar to Jessica Jones with how they use their powers and such, I want to see something a bit different. I just picked up from where I left off with OUAT and I'm more into it this time round compared to when I first watched it x
DeleteGotta love a good netflix binge! I'm currently watching Jane the Virgin, have you seen it? It's so cute :) xx
ReplyDeleteNo I haven't even heard of it! Is it on the UK or USA netflix?x
DeleteI'm halfway through Jessica Jones with my boyfriend! I keep going back and forth over whether I like her as a person or not. I get that she's a flawed character, an 'antihero,' but I find there to be troubling bits of racism and fatphobia that put me off of her. I can forgive the alcoholic with the tough exterior, but LAY OFF the treadmill burger lady! She's living her life! Found you through #crazybloggers chat!! meghansara.com
